Welcome To Kidney Walk!
We are excited to have you for the 2013 Greater Baltimore Walk. We have lots of exciting information to share with you during the months leading up to the walk and look forward to meeting you at The Maryland Zoo on May 5, 2013.
Meet the 2013 National Kidney Walk Ambassadors, The Paglio's
Our son, James, is one of roughly 750,000 people in Maryland who suffer from some form of kidney disease. Fifteen months ago, James was born with kidneys that were barely functioning, and although we were warned about possible complications, nothing could prepare us for James battle with kidney disease.
James had his first surgery at a week old and continues to regularly have doctors appointments, tests and blood draws on top of his medication regime. Despite it all, he continues to defy the odds. With every milestone he meets, we are thankful, but we know it won't last. He will likely need two or three transplants throughout his life.
I started researching kidney disease as soon as we found out about James condition. That's how we found The National Kidney Foundations website and information I needed to explain James health and prognosis to our family and friends. More importantly, I used this information to advocate for my son and work with his doctors.
Its a very lonely feeling when you have a chronically ill child. But we have found kindness and support from our friends and military family. We have found understanding a sense of community with the NKF of Maryland. I hope that my son will live to see , not just a treatment for his disease, but a cure. The NKF does so much to strive toward a cure that will be his reality.

Dialysis Center Challenge
The Dialysis Center Challenge is a competition between dialysis centers to increase awareness for and participation in the Kidney Walk. The goal of the competition is for each dialysis center to try to raise the most money for the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland. You and your team members can register online and keep track of your competition – how much money you have raised and how many team members you have recruited! The winning center will be announced at the Walk. Click here for more information.
